Northcote Residence

Harrison & White Architects approached Ivo Solar Homes to help bring an ambitious architectural vision to life – the transformation of a single fronted Edwardian weatherboard into a cutting edge expression of contemporary design.

The project began by demolishing half the existing house to make way for additional living areas and space to sculpt the unique features of the home. The extension sits at the rear of the house and is made from a sustainable artificial timber screen system used for sun shading, balustrading and view screening. Each wall of the extension features either recycled corrugated iron or rendered blue board. The subtracted sun path enables the rear garden and outdoor living area to enjoy direct sunlight, correcting the inherited orientation of the house. All materials used; from the bamboo flooring to the wall paint met with the strict environmental and renewable guidelines of our client.

This intricate design took Ivo Solar Homes just five and a half months to build. The result is a glimpse into the future, a sustainable dwelling that is sleek and modern, offering the owner an environmentally responsible and sustainable urban sanctuary.

“This visually arresting property showcases what can be achieved with a clear vision, technical know-how and a passion for pushing the envelope. This is not only a design of the future but also a clear step forward in the environmentally sensitive approach to sustainable living.”
