St Kilda Residence
Appointed by two sets of clients - friends who lived next door to each other, Ivo Solar Homes was charged with transforming a jaded 1930’s duplex. This project was an exercise in saving space; creating comfortable living zones in an area of just 300 square metres. The recommendation was to renovate the pair of maisonettes identically, saving both clients money and time.
Entering through the Art Deco entrance, you are welcomed by chocolate floorboards that bring instant warmth and a relaxing ambiance to the home. Functional floor up-lights guide you down the hallway, opening to a large room at the rear of the house – incorporating the living, dining and kitchen spaces. Sunlight and fresh air flood through the wall length bi-fold doors forming the back wall. Designed by Paul Bangay, the back garden and decking area offer another living space, broadening the scope of the property.
Taking just six months to build, this polished pair represents luxury, simplicity and style – and offer a lot of living in a limited space.
“The owners wanted simplicity of colour and surface so we stuck to an understated palette of white and chocolate. In keeping with the overall look, the landscaping was also deliberately simple – however we did introduce a sculpted touch to complement the interior.”
